Sustainability
Aloha,
For two years, we, the members of the Hawai‘i 2050 Sustainability Task Force, have listened carefully to what the people of Hawai‘i want for the long-term future of our economy, our society and our environment. We reached out through community meetings across the state, through focus groups with leaders and stakeholders, through Web surveys and Internet communications, through public opinion polls and through events like our youth summit and the Hawaii 2050 Summit.
The response has been inspiring. We have had more than 10,000 comments and attendees at Hawaii 2050 events. People want to be involved with deciding what kind of Hawaii we want to shape for our children and grandchildren. The people’s ideas and opinions were the centerpiece of the draft Hawaii 2050 Sustainability Plan, which was launched in September 2007. The draft Plan embodied what the Task Force had heard to that point about the long-range future of our Islands. Since then, more than 2,600 comments have been recorded about the draft Plan. We paid attention to what people liked, what they didn’t, what they felt was missing and what needed improvement.
We are now evaluating those comments and revising the Plan. We expect to unveil the final Hawaii 2050 Sustainability Plan – the state’s first sustainability plan in 30 years – in February 2008. It will be available for download at this website.

We thank you for your interest in Hawaii 2050 and the future of our state.
